2018 march 29.

The European qualifiers of the Women’s U20 IHF World Championship were organised between 23-25 March. Hungary (organiser), Russia (U18 IHF World Championship 2016 gold medallist), France (U19  EHF Euro 2017 gold medallist) and Denmark (U19 EHF Euro 2017 bronze medallist) are already qualified for the event. During the qualifiers, 10 more team can also start the preparation for the World Championship, while the matches of qualification group 5 will be played later.

Participant teams from the European qualifiers:

Group 1: Spain, Portugal
Group 2: Romania, Croatia
Group 3: Netherlands, Sweden
Group 4: Germany, Iceland
Group 6: Slovenia
Group 7: Montenegro

As a result of an intervention by government authorities in Serbia, the match between Serbia and Kosovo scheduled in Group 5 could not be played. Given the security issues around the match and on the advice of police authorities in the country, the qualification event had already been moved to Belgrade's Kovilovo Sport Center complex from the original venue in Kragujevac, Serbia.

In order to ensure the safety of all those involved in the event, the match was to have been played behind closed doors and without the presence of spectators and media representatives.

Under the circumstances of the match cancellation and the failure of Serbia to play the game, the EHF has decided that the Serbian national team will be excluded from further participation in the event.

The remaining matches between Norway, Slovakia and Kosovo are expected to be played without any further issues.
